What it is

VYAN models the contract manufacturer’s plant as a first-class Location with full Production Source visibility — allocated capacity, component inventory positions, BOM and routing alternatives, three-layer shrinkage. The CM’s plant participates in the optimization the same way an owned plant does; the engine evaluates make-vs-buy and CM-vs-CM alternatives against EVA. Capacity allocation conversations with CMs are grounded in the same engine that runs the owned network. Disruption response treats CM disruptions as routing problems, not procurement problems.

Pain

Contract manufacturers — outsourced plants that produce on behalf of the brand owner — sit outside the enterprise’s four walls but inside the brand’s value chain. Most planning systems either ignore Contract Manufacturer (CM) capacity (treating CMs as black-box suppliers) or duplicate the modeling effort in spreadsheets that nobody trusts. CM allocations, component inventory at the CM site, and CM routing alternatives are invisible to the optimizer. Roadmap. The Supplier_Plant Location sub-type is reserved in V1 schema. Full contract manufacturer modeling with allocated capacity, component inventory, and BOM/Routing at the CM site is V2 scope. Editing notes This document is structured for delta edits. Impact

Brand owner cannot optimize across owned and outsourced production because the planning model doesn’t see CM capacity as planning-grade. Allocation decisions to CMs run on contract minimums rather than on EVA. CM disruptions surface as supplier exceptions rather than as production-network constraints. The benefit of multi-CM redundancy is left on the table because the system can’t evaluate alternatives.
