Chapter 4 · How it runs

Three execution modes

Mode 1 daily stochastic operational. Mode 2 weekly policy optimization. Mode 3 user scenarios.

VYAN runs in three modes. Mode 1 is the daily stochastic operational solve — what gets committed today. Mode 2 is the weekly policy optimization — the meta-search that finds the right policy posture against the realistic distribution of futures. Mode 3 is the on-demand user scenarios — the sandbox where a planner or CFO asks "what if." Underneath all three, the event-driven loop runs continuously.

Mode 1 — daily. Every morning the Decision Twin runs the joint stochastic solve across N iterations of the joint distribution, produces a deterministic plan at the policy's posture percentiles, scores every commit with Decision Resilience, computes EVW for every supply event near its release window, and publishes the auto-commit-eligible decisions to the SoR. Decisions below the autonomy threshold or with low resilience scores surface to humans. The morning queue is what's left after the system has handled everything it can.

Mode 2 — weekly. Once a week, the Pareto frontier engine searches the candidate policy universe (typically 200–500 candidates including user variants), runs ranking-and- selection to eliminate dominated policies cheaply, fully evaluates survivors against the same joint sample, and produces the frontier with the knee policy identified. The recommended policy becomes active after human confirmation. The CSCO's weekly cadence anchors here.

Mode 3 — on demand. Planners, CSCOs, CFOs define scenarios (a shock, a posture variant, a what-if on demand) and the system runs the same stochastic engine against the scenario, producing dollarized comparisons against the current operating policy. The CFO walks into a board meeting with the scenarios already run; the CSCO holds a sensitivity analysis on a posture change before the conversation rather than after.

Underneath all three, the event-driven loop runs continuously (chapter 4.2). Material events trigger replans within their scope; variance events coalesce; informational events absorb as state updates. The three modes are scheduled rhythms; the loop is the heartbeat.
